well that's an interesting question, i think i read somewhere that there were a lot of old land yachts left laying around in kalgoolie when the club there closed along time ago before the renewd interest in "dirt sailing" so what happened to then ? are they just slowly rusting away somewhere ? and what about others like the imac or any others that have been made and faded away, where are they ? and could they be found and brought back to life again ?? maybe there should be some sort of "u want it we'll try to find it" after all i would have thought that some of these "old" dirt boats would be a bit of fun to restore and sail,, or am i the only one that thinks this way

No, I thought that when I started to build mine. Unfortunately at the time there was no landyacht forum to ask such questions. Daisygirl is doing something similar trying to get unused blokarts a new home.

Over time many tubing yachts either rust or corrode .. i wouldn't trust the tube on an old yacht. Some of the old seats or sails might be of use though.
The faze5 yachts were designed with clamps around the tube to eliminate this problem, but evolution of design changed and the "Pacific Magic" took over.

Often those old yachts would be used to kickstart the latest revival, then people would start building new stuff . that time span of say 3-4 years would then see the new sailors go off to do other things( family stuff?) and the whole process starts again . this cycle around in Kalgoorlie has tretched out nicely because of a few factors,in my mind.
1 Blokarts- you can go out and buy one insted of building. people tend to look after stuff they paid a higher price for. note I didnt say use it more though
2 Having somebody making sails, doing repairs locally.
3 having smaller yachts that kids and wives ar more likely to sail.
Thank you Kalgoorlie Blokarts

well seems like another can of worms opened, have you ever looked at the old cars and stuff, before they were all nice and shining some of them to look at them you'd think that nothing could be done, i was at the recent wooded boat festival here is s.a. not long ago and there were many boats there that would have rotted away if it wasn't for someone comming along and bringing them back from the grave..who knows maybe i'm just a bit different...but what the hell dare to be different i say[}:)]

There are a few old yachts around Kalgoorlie lying in backyards, I know of one viking lashed to the ceiling of a garage, with sails as new.
A guy just up my street a few doors has bought a sydney harbour bridge yacht for $200 and painted it up.It is about 40 years old and in original condition. I picked up one corner, it must weigh about 60 kg without mast and sails. As all my sailing is in Blokarts I thought a lot of wind is needed to get it going!
Will post some pictures when I see it on the lake, at Easter hopefully.
Pictures of the yacht on page 42 in Promogirls book on Lake Lefroy.

Bugger!! Sorry to hear that!!

A guy at my work died of Leukemia within in 2 weeks of being diagnosed as he couldn't get over the pneumonia. He was only in his 30s and his wife was pregnant with their second child at the time.

That just sucks!!
