We need to get in contact with that guy at Warooka that has blokarts, I bet that's where he would sail.

I will be driving through Lochiel in SA next week... I might go and have a walk on Lake Bumbunga and see what the condition like...

I know Paul "Landyacht" doesn't like the lake but NOTHING can compare to Lake Lefroy WA.

Brian,if you or anyone else for that matter plan a trip to lochiel let me know, would love to make the trip down from pt pirie to sail with you.Went out to pt germain this morning to test my latest creation ['POCKET-ROCKETsail&kite buggy]but the tide was still to high and by the time it dropped so had the wind.[i'll post some picks after paint]TONY spent a fair bit of time down yorks and your right, some good options down there,i think most are on private property so would have to get landholders permission.

i thoughtthe lake at lochiel was being mined for salt, as the last time i was past there in the truck going to the west the salt works were still going strong,,,i contacted the local yorke penn council to find out which were on private land and which had public access, they are going to find out and let me know by snail mail,,, i saw the guy at warooka had a sign painted on his shed, YORKE PENNINSULAR LAND SAILING but this last 2 trips to marion bay the sign was gone, shouldhav got the phone number then (doh)still that was awhile ago, i think i could find out as warooka is only 50 k's from our holidy house at marion bay and we go there to go shopping when down there, so next time i'll try to find out what i can,,,if you look at the tourist guff about the area between yorketown and edithburg there are almost 200 lakes/pans,, even if you could only get onto even half of them that's almost 100 possibilities,,, if you google earth yorketown it's self there's a big salt lake almost in the town which looks very sailable, then out on the road to edithburg there are lots around there as well,, snow lake at marion bay would be great if there was a way of getting onto it, but there scrub is sothick around it and from what i could see there was only a fire track which had a locked gate and the key is at the local cfs station, can't get in that way, so it looks like yorketown would be a good option for a few days exploring, it's only about hour and half from marion bay but yorketown has a good c'van park so could be right on the spot, would save traveling time
time will tell
have to take another long weekend i think and have a bit of a look see

oh yeh by the way i did notice a couple of smallish salt pans near port waikefield on the way back from easter break, they were on adelaide side of waikefield next the a motor wreckers, recon they might let you park there and get to the salt pan,it's not big but would be a bit of fun perhaps

just remembered, on the barrier h/way on the road to broken hill about 2 hours drive from adelaide is a place called porters lagoon, not far from my old home town of clare, most of the time it's a dry salt lake, does get some water in it in a really wet winter, so should be dry now,, goin to go up and have a look on sunday, know we use to go there camping and getting pissed when we were a lot younger than i am now,,,might be worth a try also

I have no objections to Lochiel, I still remember the movie of martin Bell nosediving into the mud, in fact I hope the lake is perfect!!!!!
The Bumbunga Monster would be a worry tho

I had a quick walk on the lake this morning (between the old yachts and the monster), as per usual the first 50m is firm mud, the next 50m soft salt mat over the mud and after that the lake is very firm and dry.....9/10 for sailing apart for the occasional lump in the salt......

so do you have to ask anyone before you can go sailing on the lake or is it open to anyone, and also did you get onto it from the main road or somewhere else

adelaide land acht club were up there at easter, don't know how they went didn't go.........i still think that either the area around yorketown on southern yorke penn, or porters lagoon about 2 hours drive north of adelaide on the road to broken hill would be wrth a look,,,,haven't been able to track down the guy at warooka yet, who had the blokarts,, porters lagoon is about 2 k's long by a 1or so wide, not very big i know but is reasonably close to the city

I went past on the return trip this afternoon... its been raining in SA for most of the day, and do we need it.
Probably about 30-50mm has fallen on the lake, where i walked the other day was well under water, so forget it for a while maybe November / December later this year.
Its actually nice to see that the salt works buildings and infrastructure has been removed.
Here is a pic of what the lake looks like today......

anyone know about Diamond Lake just near/north of Balaclava gliding club strip, off highway from Nantawarra/ check spelling. do occasionally see the odd motorbike wheel mark on the surface basically dry with some surface water sometimes, not often.

i'll be talking to kym on sunday at the medieval fair so i'll ask who it was, they have been trying to get out to port gawler these last few weekends but weather and tides have prevented any sailing,, i doubt that i'll be going out there much for awhile, went to goolwa and had a look there, miles of sailable sand there at the moment(unfortuneatly) guess it's an up side of a sad situation, had a good look around and there's an area that you can get to from Hindmarsh island and it runs for at least a couple of K's and is easy to get to and is only 40mins for me as opposed to 1 and 1/2 hours drive to go to pt gawler, anyway back to gillies, i'll ask kym and try and post on sunday night but if it was anything like marion bay over easter there was very little wind all weekend

I drive past today, Lake Bumbunga water level has dropped quite a lot but water still over most of the lake.
Lake Hart further up the track about 1/3 covered with water....
