I have just seen an article in the Inner West Courier that RMS have auctioned Driftwood off, with what looks like a an old 40 ft workboat. The lot went for $409.
Older Seabreezers will remember Driftwood as the home of Drummoyne identity "Arry Driftwood" who wrote marvelous witty articles in the Afloat magazine.
Both boats were described as requiring much work.

Thanks MB. I read the article and there a couple of "in between the lines" messages in it.

Ramona will be weeping.

"Arry's" boat was certainly a good buy! The navy workboat still has all the original bronze fittings, probably 3 grands worth in scrap alone. My old boat is up on the hard down here and would probably be free if someone wanted to chase it up with the MSB. 390 would have been built about 1944-45 and looks in pretty good condition really. Would be fairly easily to get another 50 years out of her.

390 had decent Frames and was actually originally 426.

She was extensively fresh water wet rotten above the gunwhales and her final price was $909.
I thought she might go for between 2 - 5k!
There was a lot of E-excitement and scuttlebutt on other marine pages too.
There is an easy $50k to spend on here and there's one that's been for sale for ages ready to drive away for $55k.

Arry's boat was a shamefully cheap buy, even sadder that his family didn't take care of Driftwood or find her a home given how much he loved her.

Not sure how you would steer it. The tiller seems to foul the main sheet.

And sold - if you believe it - for $3,000. Not a bad investment on the $409 first spent.
