I live just north of cairns, never sailed before. looking to buy a trailer sailer.
I work away for 2 weeks and then here for 2 weeks so my plan is to do the rivers, Daintree, Bloomfield, and the reef.
In my mind i can imagine living on this for the 2 weeks off and in the future maybe for a few years.
requiements that i consider important are standing head room, fresh water storage, easy to get on and off trailer, an engine!, condition of trailer.
I like the thought of sailing and not using fuel, but happy to buy fuel and slowly learn.

Facts.

I drive an 80 series land crusier.
I am a mechanic.
46 years old, single.
Budget 10k (Flexable) plus trade in of bike
I have a 2010 Harley Davidson Fatboy that i would trade or swap.
Any thought or ideas on what i should look for or places to look will be appreciated.

Mate a budget of $10k is not going to get you a standing head room trailer sailer worth having.

Keep the Land Cruiser, get rid of the Harley.

A pop top Thunderbird might be a good yacht for you.

Here is the search result for under $20k more than 24 foot in Queensland.

The Top Hat would be a good option. You could build a jinker trailer for it and store it in a boat yard when not in use.

Forget headroom. Northern Queensland it will be too hot and unpleasant to be below decks most of the time anyway. You need deck space and shade.

Buy this one. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/perth-region/sail-boats/sorcerer-yacht/1058009359 so I don't have too! Not the fastest trailer sailer but one of the most seaworthy.

Take a leisurely drive over to Perth. Do some sailing over there first then Spencer Gulf on the way home, Pittwater etc. By the time you get home you will probably realize there are far better places to sail than Northern Qld.

Thanks for the link and details about Perth, I have been there and thats why I live where I live. Nothing against Perth it is nice place.

Yes Harley is going so the budget is around the 20 to 30k. Standing room is important to me, Yes shade and deck area is also good point.

I will check out the other site Don.

An RL28 is just about the only option in that price range (apart from an orphan) isn't it?
