Hello all.
After many calls and searches I've been unable to find someone to diagnose and repair my vhf and ais problems.
Does anyone have a contact south side of Sydney that could be passed on?

It may be the common earth that you are missing. look for -Tx from each unit these should be connected so each unit can see the gaps in the data packages. Only a very thin speaker wire is required.

Approach your units agent and check that I'm right before powering up.

I found this out by a chance remark from the agent of my plotter.

What sort of problems? Does your AIS have an integral splitter or a separate one. What equipment is it? You someone may have had a similar problem on your specific equipment that can help.

AIS has seperate splitter. Transceiver has a constant flashing red light fault and vhf only receives / sends on short range.
I'm thinking of re running the entire cable to mast head and antennae but don't want to waste my time.

There are a couple of tests you can do. Try disconnecting your splitter and connect your radio direct to the antenna and see if its any better. Same with your AIS. A radio tech should be able to test your mast cable and antenna with a power meter before you go to all the trouble of replacing it.

Sound like it could be an issue with your splitter or antenna circuit. Unpowered passive splitters are very unreliable and where the cable connects to the aerial at the masthead is also susceptible to faults. If you were in Brisbane i'd be happy to look at it for you.

Good luck

Hi Saltiest,
Have you tried running ProAIS2 ? Linky to software download below;
www.raymarine.com/service-and-support/software-updates/

Its a great little diagnosis app, runs on a Win PC or laptop. You typically connect via USB, just check the interface on your transponder.
You normally unplug the AIS from power, as the USB port will provide the power needed while you run the app.

Here's a link to a diagnosis with ProAis.

You didn't really need to read a manual or watch a how to video, its pretty self explanatory once you open it.
Might give you some guidance?
SB

Edit: And the best thing is you don't need to be a rocket scientist to use it!
