Hey everyone,
I've been sailing for a few years now in Pacers at the Yacht Club and am looking to progress to something a bit more, preferably that I can sail without too much difficulty. Looking for something moderately fast that is for two smallish guys.
Options so far I've seen are:
125
F11
NS14
Pacer
I'd like to know your opinions on these boats and if you have any other suggestions. Looking for something I could buy cheapish (under 3K) second hand or something I could buy new under 7K.
Finally, where are the best places to buy new boats such as these- I can't find anywhere that makes new boats? I don't own one and am quite inexperienced so any advice/information would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Google up Tasar Yachts. A brand newie will cost you $14,000 or more but there are plenty of them around and you could pick one up fot $1k to $2K.
I had one with full rig and sails that I sold for $1,000.

Go and have a look at what the blokes at other clubs are sailing and be guided by that, racing in a class is much more satisfying.
From the list you have there, my pick would be the NS14 ... or a slight variation on that ..... an MG ....... which is an NS14 with one trapeze and a spinnaker to really get your heart pumping and I feel that will keep both of you happy for quite some time before you need to upgrade again.

Louie, the only double handed dinghy with any chance of getting below 10k new is the 125 and you would be building the hull yourself. A NS new will set you back 16k, a F11 from thorpy is around the same once it is on the water, a tasar new is 18+k (the $14999 kit does not come with everything required to rig the boat and go sailing).
If your combined weight is under 130kg go a 29'r,cherub or 13ft skiff and have an absolute blast learning with plenty of other similar boats around Brisbane to sail against and get you through the learning curve.
Second hand, gumtree comes up with some bargains, otherwise the class association sites are a good starting point.
Other option is The Sailboat Shop www.thesailboatshop.com.au who either have traded in second hand dinghy's or can help source what your looking for.

The F11 is too small and has no side decks. I would suggest a secondhand Tasar as well. Try it for awhile and sell it on once you decide where you want to progress to. The others would have no resail value in Queensland.

Thanks everyone,
I'd skipped over Tasars in my initial searches for boats, but it seems like they might be the way to go. Does anybody know good places to buy them second-hand? I've looked on gumtree and the association's website and there's not much there.
Thanks again!

There are 4 or 5 on Gumtree at the moment, avoid the boats that have Dacron sails, it is a good sign that they have not had a lot of maintenance for at least 5 years. The class changed to Mylar sail over a decade ago. The first lot of tasars had a Kevlar skin, great until it needed to be repaired.

Hi Louie
If your in Brisbane check out the 125 scene as there is a great bunch there with a well run association. They race from Darling Point in Whynnum and Brisbane Sailing Squadron on the river.
Second hand 125s in racing condition are usually in the 4 to 8K range, less for plywood hulls.
Plus you get the bonus of a kite and trapeze for fun!
125s have a long history in QLD and resale there is fine....Past 3 National Champs are also from QLD so plenty of expertise on hand.
The 125s still have active associations in all mainland Australian States with the recent Nationals held in Tumby Bay SA there were boats from all these States in attendance.
