Every time I've wanted to change my engine anode, finding yet a new source because the old one is currently out of stock, don't stock them any more, etc, has been a constant PITA.
Well, after a lot of searching, I've finally hit pay dirt- they had what I wanted, so I bought 10 of them @ $1.95 ea

They aren't, trust me and I've retailed anodes for years.
It's freight that's the killer....looked at buying $3k wholesale of anodes shipped to Tassie, freight was $3k ????

Well I can only surmise that you have a steel hull Lazz. When I purchased my 40 ft steel whole (in the water) it had lots of anodes. I did a voltage check ( between the hull and water) and then proceeded to take most of the anodes off. In the end I had one anode on the prop shaf, one on the prop and a small one on the hull. Even took the one of the rudder. (The rudder did have a fixed flexible electrical cable/connection back to the hull of the boat) Now at the start I was a bit worried but careful inspection over the years showed no I'll effects.

(Not counting the 3 small anodes inside the YAnmar)

I reasoned this out that the amount of anodes required relates to the surface area of bare metal exposed to the saltwater. As the paint job on my hull was in excellent condition and always kept that way, there was a minimum of exposed metal. My skin fittings were all S/S nipples I had made up (10mm wall) and welded in. I reasoned this would be okay (and it was) because this is how most prop shafts are done on steel boats.

If if you are chewing through 20kg of anodes then you may have stray electrical current issues. My house electrical system was 100% isolated from the metal of the boat and the engine start battery only connected to the engine/hull via a contractor when I turned the key to start the engine. This connection was required to get the neg return path for charging used by the alternators. I also had a 2 pole contractor on my anchor winch so that the chain was isolated from the hull when anchored up. The chain locker was also insulated from the hull and a wooden deck. (Composite bow roller)

Now every boat is different and you must do what you believe is right for your boat. But just letting you know what I found with mine. Cheers

I'm not chewing through the anodes - I have a prop nut anode & one either side of the rudder & two on the hull.

In previous years the anodes were hardly touched & I haven't replaced them since the boat went in the water 4 years ago except for the prop nut. Being 2 1/2 years since last haul out I just bought them all with the biggest hull anodes that would fit.
