Hi,

I have just hired a diver to come clean my hull but it really needs to be raised out of the water and antifouled.

Just wondering what the process is of getting this done?

Do i need to hire a crane and do the work myself or is there a company that does it all?

I have been looking into the slipway and hardstands at bunbury but there is not much info about it. Might have to do it in mandurah before i leave.

Any advice on how to get the boat out of the water and rough pricing would be good.

Thanks

Another question.

If someone was to dive say once a fortnight and scrape their hull clean, could you get away with not antifouling?

My yacht has not been out of the water for around 3.5 years. I have now dived on it about four times in past 2 years and last time just with a snorkel.
If you do 20% from a tender , down from the waterline with a wide scraper and a light scrub with a brush you are then just left with the keel, rudder and the rest you can't reach by hand.

However on my 27 fter I use the main halyard in a double marina berth to canter the whole yacht over about 30 degrees and attack the below waterline with a broom.

This makes a hell of a difference to boat speed for about 4 to 6 weeks until the growth returns.

I'm going on the hard stand finally this Friday.....I costs me about $1000 total for up and back and 2 coats 12ltrs of anti-foul for a 37 ftr.

There are people in Bunbury who could do it for you but why spend the money? you could do it yourself in a day for the cost of a can of paint (about $165 at Naturalist Yachts, behind Bunbury Nissan)

You can get lifted out at Busselton in the marina or if you were a member of the Sailing Club you could probably use my jinker for a couple of days for free. Joining Koombana Bay will save you money, not cost money - trust me.

Thanks Benoz.

Great info.

I have always planned on joining koombana. Will get around to it this week hopefully.

Do i just show up and ask for an application or do i need to be nominated etc?

you need to be nominated but as I said in a previous post if you turn up at about 6pm on a Friday you can meet the locals, get nominated and seconded (a formality) and have a beer all at the same time. Saturday between about 9am and 5 pm would be a similar deal but many people will be racing so maybe not as chatty

If you turn up on a monday, wednesday or friday during the day they will take an application from you and find someone to nominate you at the first opportunity.

I am looking at a fgp 33 footer has not been touched for 4 years
owner says its a "low growth" area still awaiting pictures before committing to inspection as its sooo far away
what to expect ? ....could it be retrievable or just avoid ?
i understand its impossible to comment but can a hull shown such neglect be successfully resurrected ?

Anything can be resurrected and if it really is a low growth area it may not be that bad. As you say it is nearly impossible to comment on without seeing it or having really good pics to squizz at.

If it soooo far away why are you attracted to it, if it based on price only, that in my opinion is not a good enough reason to entertain the idea.

Your best bet is to go and have a look for yourself and then base everything from there on things you have seen with your eyes, only you have the ability to decide if this is the boat for you.

Thanks for your reply Loosechange
I was not sure as to there being differing levels of growth so that is interesting , my boat sits on a trailer with tarp and parked under cover , very minimal growth.
Believe me i am very careful about such a purchase and spending much time analyzing the proposition , price is of course included in any analysis.
the design for expected purpose is of most importance to me along with resale prospects.
I have my B20 so i am not desperate to purchase but if the right opportunity arises i have family support to pursue my dream of an offshore adventure and resell as soon as its finished returning to the B20.
I am interested in any other experiences people may have had regarding excessively long layovers such as this.
