Sailing down from Cairns can be hard work As its windward work for most of the way , Bashing into the constant southeasters with the small chance of Northerlies in October and November.
If you buy it Get it down asap as the SE winds pick up from now.
Cats dont bash to a seaway (wind chop) very well and several trips down from Cairns in my own cat has taught me to dread the southbound trip

Sell the house in Geelong and move to Cairns and leave the boat there, the weather is warmer up there, Geelong can be VERY cold in winter.

keep cool , something closer to home will come up .

buying away from home is much more exy in the long run .

I work for a heavy haulage company. To transport it without police under 5.5m. There is curfew times so cant travel 24h constantly. Needs 2 Pilots as well. We have a low loader with a 10m deck (3.5m deck width) but it would need a frame to sit in. Also crane hire is needed at each end which also adds into the cost.

I'm convinced a sea delivery is the way to go.

With 3 crew, they plan to sail virtually without stops, unless there's breakages or pretty bad weather of course.

I forgot to ask how long delivery would take, around 3-4 weeks i'm guessing?

Hi, tilting the boat in a cradle on a truck might cause some issues being under power lines etc. How good is your trig? Anyway, can you somehow fit into a sea container?

Good luck if sailing her down, might make it on the nose, hope that you are insured. If boat is unfinished now you'll probably spend twice as much and three times as long getting her ready for sea (trials).

Apart from moving to Cairns for a holiday to fit out and waiting for next season suggest you could now fly to Cairns and chop the boat in half with a grinder fitted with a diamond blade, of course you'll need to knock up some retaining frames first.

You won't need a crane, only a truck with a hi-ab and seperate trailer for other half of boat [and nil police escort], and, certainly a good reglue with lotsa 2 pak epoxy and stringers later. Moved a 30' cat with a hiab before and it wasn't to dear locally, not sure about long distance 'though.

Incidentally a local Perth cat, Sally Malay, 35' Kurt Hughes, got built then was chopped in half and reglued down at peppy grove where she was launched - due to transport width problems. Years later she still floats at Hillarys Marina, have earlier been aboard her with Ian Walker when she's cracked 20 knots.

In the final analysis I'd maybe just sell up and move to NQ where you can find heaps of other cheaper multis too and the best place to sail them, cheers.
