I can relate to the 'no motor' but it seems a bit rash sailing across the Pacific with no communication equipment aboard. Mind you, if you have to spend some time on shore, Maui is not a bad place to be.

Maui is nice but I'm sure it was not his destination. 100 days out of Panama on his way to Australia I think he was not only confused but very lost.

Should put him in touch with the two ladies who were recently found floating in the Pacific too

Yep. Kris is a lovely resourceful guy.

Lives a life free of all the techo wizzo gadgetry we think is necessary for a modern life.

I haven't had a conversation with Kris since the press attention, but I look at the pictures of Kris relaxing, all cleaned up with a rye smile on the dial and I would bet my last dollar that Kris would have closed the coast to pass a letter or ask a fellow mariner to text a message to his partner, of his progress. Common practice not so long ago before mobile phones and cheap radios (none of which he owns). And probably ask for confirmation of his position.

The well meaning but misguided "samaritans" have labeled him a nutter and called the coast guard.

Great , he now gets a holiday in Maui.

This will just be another chapter in his next book.

Safe sailing Kris.

Did they 'rescue' him by force?
What's this all about? The silly season again? Any news will do?

Cheers Guadian for posting that link, I read that years ago and well worth the time to read it again. Big respect for Kris, I wouldn't be able to live such a carefree life, but I'm glad there are people out there doing it, and occasionally sharing the experience.

No worries BlueMoon. I found Atom Voyages thanks to the article they posted about Alberto Torroba, who crossed the pacific in a dugout canoe on the 90s.

Sorry guys but i just do not find Kris Larson and his Atom voyages to be entirely credible.

Admittedly he has a lot more ocean miles under his belt than I do, so you might say who am I to comment?

He presents himself as the ultimate independant singlehanded sailor, built his boat himself, has no engine, has no communication from his boat, echews all modern technology, yet he has an internet blog and asks his friends with phones to send his emails and upload his stuff.

He is not "A Law Unto Himself" and has seriously compromised his presented ethic. I am calling B.S.

He is from behind the Iron Curtain, mate. Chechoslovakia.
You got no idea what those guys suffered after escaping the commies.

not quite sure what you are saying here. just because he chooses to not have electrickery on his boat when he voyages solo, doesn't mean he "eschews all modern technology", and why should it?

if even half of what i've read about him is true, he is a pretty amazing individual.

btw, Atom is a different boat, different people (not Kris Larsen)...
