When l bought the boat, it had 3 bilge pumps.
One electric one, a Rule1500 with auto float switch, hot wired to the house batteries with a fuse. It was and is working fine. There are two manual ones as well.
One of them is operated from the cockpit with it's own strainer and it is independent from the others with it's separate outlet to sea.

The other manual one, whoever, is connected to the electric one in a way l am not sure, is it correct?
The outlet of the Rule electric pump is connected to the inlet of the second manual pump and the manual pump's outlet is leading out to the sea. The electric pump is pushing the water through the manual pump while the manual pump picks up the bilge water from the electric pump's strainer.
The electric runs a 1"1/8 hose outlet while the manual has a 25mm or a 38mm inlet-outlet but the 25mm one is in use.
Is this correct? I mean it is working, l tried it with a bucket of water, and it was working both ways but when l asked around, everyone looked at me puzzled.

The boat was once an ocean racer and it had a Cat3. The old Cat3 rules required two manual bilge pumps, l heard. There is not much place in the bilge of a 28 to put a third independent bilge strainer, for sure. Not mentioning the extra length of hoses and outlet.
Was someone being smart here to comply with the rules but on the cheap?

Any explanation or comment would be keenly read.

Would this system work when the poo hits the fan?

Sounds fine to me. I'm not sure I would use a 1500 Rule pump though for normal pumping out with a float switch. Ok for a back up to the manuals if you had a sudden ingress but for maintaining a dry bilge at the mooring a small rule would be better. Ideal set up is a "Waterwitch" switch and a 500 rule that pumps slow enough so water can drain through limber holes. With that 1500 pump I would suggest a relay if your using a pivoting float switch.

Otherwise the pipe layout you have is similar to mine which is set up for Cat 1.

Just as a matter of interest if your boat was in NSW survey the 12 v pumps don't count!

Just read through my measurement certificate and the 12 volt pump does not get a mention. I would suggest if you have a certificate for your vessel then the pump system would have passed suitable for offshore racing. Just add a couple of good quality plastic buckets.
