My old Stormy was getting a bit ratty, will not meet new standards in Tassie in 2020,www.mast.tas.gov.au/new-standard-life-jackets-required-boat-tasmania-2020/ needed a service and the water activated strobe had died so i lashed out and bought as new one https://www.stormylifejackets.com.au/product/stormy-life-jacket-with-harness-150n/

This time i bought one with a harness inside and crotch straps to make the jacket as effective as possible if i end up in the water

The Stormy factory is in Hobart so it was good to be able to go there, try a few different sizes on and discuss what was the best choice

They are a friendly bunch of people and good to deal with

Look forward to using it and seeing how comfortable it is once it gets a bit of use because with the internal harness it doesn't feel as comfortable as the old one

When i told my wife how much it was ($550 with a $30 trade on the old one and a water activated strobe) she said she didn't think i was worth that much

Hi Trek

The good thing about sailing in Tassie is that it is hardly ever too hot to wear a jacket

In summer I zip the sleeves off, throw them in my sailing bag and wear it as a vest and if it gets too cold I put them back on again

When you talk to MAST they say that the statistics show that most people drown in good weather because the don't bother wearing a Pfd whereas in bad weather they do

They also say because the water temp down here is quite cold, if you end up in the water you haven't got a long time to get back on the boat before you are unable to help yourself back on

I think if I had a yoke I wouldn't wear it as often as It would be another thing to put on whereas with the jacket I generally put it on before I leave the house

You're spot on Don. I would like everyone on Trek to have and wear one of those but it would be too hot often. And more dramas in summer is right too. When i was in RVCP in good weather every man and his tinnie would hit the water and get into trouble, most often with badly maintained outboards that wouldnt start and running out of petrol.
