Just thinking if any Seabreezers around Brisbane would like to organise a weekend we could sail to a anchorage in Moreton Bay and meet over a few sun downers??

Given the Sandhills off Moreton Is are centrally located with a good overnight anchorage its properly the best spot.
Just need to pick a weekend with high tide around sunset so we cound get ashore infront of the small Sandhill.

As a starter the 24th & 25th October has the right tide.

Anybody interested?

If we get enough people interested those without a boat might be able to come along as crew?

Maybe someone in each capital city or region could organise a similar weekend??

Great to see people are interested.

I've just realised I'm going on holidays from 24 Oct to 8th Nov and will be away, should have check my diary before making the post

So for me to come it would have to be the 21 & 22 Nov which has high tide at 5.17pm

hope that date suit others

Pencil me in for a tentative.
At a pinch, the new boat could be ready by then, this could well be its first outing.
Edit: Don't worry about my availability, there are too many things that could change my hoped for splash date.

Hi there

you're welcome to come with me if you like. We can make it an all-girls's adventure if you like?

My baby's a lot smaller than yours, but she's very pretty :)

Good to see people coming on board

I guess we need to lock in a date & anchorage so people can plan accordingly.

If we anchorage at the Sandhills we need to work around the tide so 21 & 22 Nov would be the best date .

There is the option of staying at Tangalooma on Moreton Is (just south of the wrecks) where the tide makes no difference to accessing the shore for sundowners. Its a beautiful anchorage in the right conditions.
If we stay there you can snorkel around the wrecks and walk up to the resort to watch the dolphin feeding at night.

If people are thinking of coming from interstate they may enjoy the activities Tangalooma has to offer. Some may want to stay a few days to make the trip worthwhile.

What to other people think.

Hi Vince

Lucinda Bay - the next anchorage to the south of Tangalooma - is a beautiful spot as well.

Heaps quieter than Tangalooma and a lot less stress trying to get a spot to anchor.

Loads of wildlife - the dolphins hang down there, as do turtles, dugongs, and heaps of stingrays basking in the shallows. I'm a bit biased. It's one of my favourite places

I agree Lucinda Bay is nice and quieter than Tanagalooma with access to shore on any tide which will open up more dates.

Does anyone else want to make a suggestion?

I'll bring a hookah!
For those of you with their minds in the gutter, that is hookah with an ah, this is not a typo
I won't have a chance to field test it before then, I might try and find some adventurous Seabreezer soul to road test it in front of everyone.

What would be cool but highly impossible, would be to organize an event in each city on the same date. I'ld be happy to organize Perths (although my boat is on the market and would hopefully be gone soon).

Any date and place is OK with me at the moment.
Happy to take a couple of crew as well. Someone that can show me how to point her where I want her to go when going astern would be a major bonus.

The place doesn't worry me as long as the times are locked in so I can get the time off in advance.... and as long as I can get a spot on someone else's boat.

As there has been no more suggestions for a anchorage I think we should lock in Lucinda Bay south of Tangalooma as the anchorage.
The blue marker in Nav screen shot below marks the general location.
It's approx 15-16 Nm depending which Brisbane Marina you come from, so about a 3.5 hr sail without too much tacking.

The next thing to be decided is the date, I think the 21& 22 Nov has the best tide with a run out tide Saturday morning which will help the sail over and a run in tide after lunch on the Sunday which will assist coming home.
There's more chance of getting SE or NE winds in late Nov which are good for this anchorage.

If I don't get any comment over the next few days I'll lock in the 21 & 22 Nov.

If people are coming from interstate and want a longer trip we could look at making it a 3 day weekend and do a sail up to Tangalooma on the Sunday and stay Sunday night there after the weekender's have gone home. I'd be happy to take Monday off.
There is also the option for people to stay at the resort for a few days and get the ferry back to Brisbane (if you don't have a boat)

Cheers

Vince
