Hi all

Have had a beauty of a week out in different places around Platypus Bay, such an amazing area!
Looking to sail over to Bundaberg Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

Does anyone know if its ok to anchor at Town Reach? If not, where's the next best spot?
We plan on staying till the weekend, stocking up for our next leg to Lady Elliot and Musgrove.

Also anyone with tips on any cool places to visit while ashore?

Thanks in advance.

I have found this forum to be super helpful, lots of good advice and local tips. Its a little one-sided so far as I'm always asking for things and not really giving any feedback myself, B:I'm not from Australia, B: I don't feel I have the experience to answer most questions adequately.

Hi Dex. Anchoring in the town reach is permitted but has issues. You may need a high tide to pass through the lower section of the last reach near Kirby's Wall.

The town reach is a channel so please anchor to one side. The channel is used by local fishermen and more importantly the rowing community in the early hours still dark.

Close to the bank on the south side might be your best choice. There is a public pontoon which is used for dinghy mooring but make sure you secure it and consider other users. There has been vandalism there so daytime use only is recommended. Shopping centres are within walking distance.

The Port Marina has plenty of vacant berths but they come at a price. The less said the better.

The Burnett Heads Basin has limited anchoring room but if your draught is 2m or less there is a good spot in front of the Blue Water Club about 20 or 30 metres out. Burnett Heads has an IGA shopping centre and the locals are quite friendly. There is a regular bus service between Burnett Heads and Bundaberg.

The Rum Distillery Tour is popular and has special rums on sale and the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and museum on the north side is worth a visit too. There are plenty of good dining out venues for the budget conscious, particularly at the hotels. The Grand Hotel does a good steak, sauce, chips and salad for $18.

Bundaberg Marine Rescue (VMR 488) can be raised on VHF channels 16 and 81.

Awesome info, thanks Cisco!
We'll make sure to anchor to one side of the channel. As we're going to be there 2-3 days it'll be better if we're right in town.

We've got a blog going, its a couple of weeks behind just so we've always got something ready. Check it here: learningbydoing.exposure.co

Thanks
