The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses a proprietary battery but then so many of them these days do, I would prefer something that takes AA's.

Any of the major brands would more than satisfy your needs, try to stay under 10x50 as anything above 10x becomes very difficult to hand hold in a boat, 7x50 are ideal as they have a large exit pupil and that's something that's very handy in low light.
