Nedlands YC has plenty of witches too.
Sunday is their usual racing day and they are always looking for crew.
Having sailed witches and spacesailors, I'd prefer the space sailor.
Hi,
I was sailing a Fireball but my wife wasn't keen being on the trapeeze!!!
The Redwitch isn't terribly fast but my wife and I have fun on it. For cruising.....pretty cramped but if you don't mind that then fine. It will stand up to the strong breezes on summer afternoons and is little like a dinghy in how it handles. You are going to get wet.....maybe on the river you wont, dont know as I haven't sailed there. I would happily take it to Rotto, on the right day. Sail in the morning and come back the next maybe.
It is easy to sail and I cant find any particular vices. A good boat to learn on but enough to keep me interested. The rig is quite 'tunable' with a pretty low mast so not a lot of weight in the rig. I haven't had the kite up yet as pole was jammed but all fixed now. I was surprised at how sensitive it is to weight distribution, but given its size I should have known!
To be honest I am probably not the right guy to ask as its my first 'keel boat' albeit pretty tiny and I only got it last year. Cost me 3 grand with a 5hp outboard and reasonable trailer. Sails are old but OKish. Some pretty good ones around for about $5k
Launching and recovering is a bit of a palaver but I have down pat now. I keep mine on the hard but it is antfouled so I could leave it in the water if I want to.
All in all though it is cheap and cheerful. Lots of fun.
