Planning a Christmas cruise while we are in Hobart any tips on must see destinations down the channel? Are there any good spots for kids to go ashore and have an overnight camp adventure?

For camping
Partridge Island in sea breezes
Rabbit Island if fresh from West.
Just be snake aware.
As for cruising anywhere south of Flowerpot.
Just get the CYCT guide
Further south you go the better
Best places to sit out a blow are Rabbit island or coal bins.
The Channel has been described as one of the best small cruising grounds in the world which seems right to me.
Drinks are every Friday night at the Port Esperance Sailing Club which can arrange a club mooring right out the front.
Port Cygnet is Tuesday and Port Huon Yacht club is Thursday
If you get caught with very heavy westerly weather for a few days message me as it likely I would have a 50T mooring free in Jan.
There was a Tassie thread here somewhere with pics

Dover is the pick for re supply as the IGA and cellar are short walk from the wharf where you get water and diesel
There is also ATM and a post office
Wednesday night is schnitzel night at the RSL but you will need to book.
There is a bus to Hobart as well
I am back in the south after family Xmas stuff so if you listen to Tas maritime sheds I am RG 590
Cheers

Hi Parkster, sounds like you'll be having a lot of fun. Lots of good advice from Lydia there. Happy to meet you for a coffee and chat to fill in some other options, all best done over a map and I can bring my copy of the cruising guide. Just PM me if you're interested?

Adventure Bay on the east side of Bruny Island for the kids to run around,

might be hard to find a spot to camp though as it's Xmas and there will be people everywhere

Kettering is a nice spot to wander around and have a look at different boats etc etc

Likely to be very busy though,
For the same reasons,

Interesting you mention this, I've noticed the jetty on Partridge, but never had a close look - are there ant restrictions on use? Google can't tell me anything! Cheers

The jetty was not in great repair but saw something to say work was or would be underway so have not checked lately
deep enough and a good campsite up the hill where the old buildings where
good shelter along the bank along from jetty

I have a friend who grew up at Mickey's Bay. She said there used to be a very odd family which lived on Partridge Island in the 70's.

When they moved off the island they just left all their animals behind including a horse and dog! Parks went over and rescued them a week or so later!!
