I tried to add this to the cruising forum but it was too old

It's just me sharing a buzz i got a week ago... still buzzing

We had some real good noreasters here in sydney last week, like the ones i remember from my youth

This one got underway around 1000 and so by 1830 when i left sydney heads bound for port hacking the chop/swell was kicking in nicely

With one reef in the main and the big jib up the first half of the trip was a bit rolly, then as gybed back in off Botany Bay the swell was travelling the exact way i was heading

So as i surfed a few rollers and fell of them as the apparent wind angle changed

I was solo and i ended up leaving the helm alone as it was well balanced and steered by sheeting in and out on the jib, absolutely flying along, occasionally tweaking helm but leaving it alone minutes at a time

I surfed all the way into the hacking just as sun set... awesome sail

Always a good feeling when you pick up a nice surfable wave. Moreton is great for it on a Noreaster and easterly swell. Although in a 20 footer the rudder leaves the water on the top of the waves. Still good fun though

Port Hacking can be a fun place to sail into and not depending on how big the curlers are at the entrance.

Many years ago (late 80s) mate and I had a Flying Fifteen moored at Yowie Bay that for mid week recreation (we worked weekends) we would load with an Esky with a dozen stubs, 2 steaks, KFC coleslaw and a disposeable BBQ and sail over to Jibbon Beach at the national park. Absolute glory days.

What a beautiful spot Port Hacking is.
