Within 3 weeks I will be fullfiling a 35 year old dream,(before I get too old) my partner and I are taking off on our South Coast 36 yacht. I'm taking 4 surfboards, and hoping to find as much surf as possible. We are leaving Batemans Bay a quick sail to Wollongong to spend xmas with the families, then off to Tasmania until late March early April, then north to who knows where??
Interested to see if there are any other surfers who are out doing the same thing or have done it. Love to hear from you or about it. We have just started a blog where you can follow our adventure.

Cheers,

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Wave g'day to us as you sail past Stanwell Park. We run a Hanggliding school and watch the yachties sail past us on a regular basis. Tony

Hi Glenn and Tony
Ive been doing the same for years and im currently in Cairns , although there is no surf here ive got lots of Kitesurfing gear which really enhances your adventure as there is always wind up here.
One of the big issues you'll find is trying to find a mooring / anchorage area thats close to a break, I'll send you some good spots on your blog but theyre all north of Woollongong and as youre going to Tazzie you wont use em till you sail north (assuming you will?)
Ive also got 2 hanggliders on board and theyre the best toys ive got! Theres nothing like pulling up to an island for a couple of days, Kitesurf the windward side, Fly the hill with the hangglider then drink a cold beer then do it all again the next day. Lizard island was a highlight, and there is a surf break on the reef nearby if you've got a dinghy thats up to it.
Youre probably on your voyage now as i type so happy sailing!!

G'day Hangtime, Have been up your way recently. Fellow hangie pilot and best mate Greg has just taken over "Golden Legend", lying at the Yacht club, Port Douglas. Our plan is to flee after the wet and head off to Indo, for an extended surf period. Peace, Tony

Sounds great Tony , Similar plan but im spooked by the wet season so im heading down south for 3 months of surf then back to the cyclone/wet season interupted voyage.
Does your mate Greg know of the local sites?

Yeah, Greg knows the local flying sites, as he assisted me when we did tandems off the "rex" and a couple from the "gillies" in 1995. Not much flyin for him, he just contentrating on music. They, Dave Powers and Greg, are called "back of the van" and have regular gigs at the Courthouse and some other pubs around town. We have just started our quest for an Indo visa, etc. Do you have any experience with that??

Most cruisers join a rally from Darwin and they get an easy road thru the red tape, its much easier than doin it on your own. There is a rally from Darwin to Ambon and one from Darwin to Kupang.

Thanks Hangtime, we may see you in the air sometime. I am sure that rallys are good if it works with your time frame, but we are not into following others. We have an efficient office staff on the hard. They already at it... Peace,Tony
