Hi guys
I'm looking for a reliable and cheap machine to vacuum seal foods. Has anyone used the little battery powered pistol shaped ones with the ziplock backs and Tupperware style boxes?
Thanks

I have one and it was not a great success so we now carry a bigger one that sucks and seals the bag. There is another way they call the poor mans cryovac. You get a snap lock bag, put your product in and then hold it in water and massage the air out making sure you don't get water in the open top. When all the air is out you zip the bag up. Works a treat, try it.

I have to agree with Jode5. I have used the battery/hand pump ones while camping and while they initially show promise, they are no good long term (day or two).
if you can run a decent one, it's worth it...

Hi can't comment on the battery powered units, but can certainly recommend the powered cryovac machines. We have a Sunbeam machine which we have used for a few years now. Great for sealing meat before going away sailing or camping and it is easy to get the bags online or in shops like Harvey Norman.

Just ordered one online from Kogan. Checked all the reviews and this one seems better than most at an attractive price. If it does turn out to be a dud, ( and so far all from Kogan has been O.K.) then we have not lost much and will revert to the above suggestion using the ziploc bags.
