My old boat is in very good nick, but I don't think the deck and cabin top have been cleaned in its entire life.
I went sailing with Kiwi Bruce yesterday and he told me that transmission oil was excellent as a fibreglass
cleaner. Has anyone heard of this?, and how does it compare with Fibreglass Colour Restorer from Whitworths.??
BTW MB, Mischief is back on her McCarrs Creek mooring. Looking excellent.

DON'T USE JIFF. It is very abrasive and sure to destroy any reflective surfaces. Use jiff if you want a "matt" finish that easily collects more grime and mildew.
There are some liquid rust stain removers that you can put on and in less than a minute rust stains disappear. It's pretty savage stuff but I use it on my boat (Painted surfaces) regularly but always make sure it is rinsed off properly. I then use some 3M Wax and Polish. You'll have to supply the Elbow Grease though. as I haven't been able to buy it anywhere.

Thanks newsailor. Kiwi Bruce tends to do things on the cheap, but he has and is building boats, so does that mean he
knows what he's talking about??. Yes Crusoe I have heard to avoid Jiff. I don't have rust stains but the fibreglass
does have a chalky residue all over it. My Elbow Grease is a bit old and weak.......so I'll get Missus to do it!!!.

Another one NOT to use is Penetrol marine, it shines it up a bit but leaves it grubby looking & after a year or so it will flake off, then you have to wait another couple of years at least for the rest of it to flake off so you can try something else.

Anyone know about Oxalic Acid? I have aluminium toe rails which I am concerned about if using Oxalic acid on the deck.
