Can any of you Queenslanders tell us whats going on here.
These were lifted from facebook this week.
Burnice Starkey Everybody Out! We have been evicted! On Tuesday morning a representative of the Qld Gov. knocked on our hull. We had 48hrs to leave the anchorage. Apparently, the well-heeled house owners around the Mooloola River basin have complained. No consideration to the fact that yachties also spend tourist dollars in the town. Moreover, long before when there were only paperbarks lining the river and not houses made of ticky-tacky, yachties have used this anchorage. Now the recently arrived landed gentry want these vessels removed. Admittedly there are many vessels lingering here. The southern bound fleet usually need to overnight. Others use it as a base for longer periods to repair any faults created over the recent yachting season. But the mobile fleet is a beautiful sight. This is no junk yard. We intend selling Brahminy here. Much money has and will be outlaid to various establishments while we slip, paint, varnish, repair sails and dodgers and pay a commission to the broker. We had intended on moving shortly to Lawrie's but with the threat of a substantial fine lingering we moving this morning, Wednesday. So yachties the rot sets in. Rouse! Rouse! Everybody out!
Glenn Love You can anchor there for 10 consecutive days if taking shelter from adverse weather or making urgent repairs. (you must be living aboard as well) Unfortunately it's others who spoil it for genuine cruisers, for example I know of one Ferro boat that's been there for over 3 years unattended which is a hazard to navigation, but a great nesting spot for local birds. You can hardly blame the locals when boats are not anchored securely and left to rot or swing at the mercy of wind tide are becoming both a hazard and an eyesore.
Hans Dauncey The official said we were allowed 48 hours in the Mooloola River as live-a-boards. Mind you he only came around because a local complained. I think he was worried that a yacht might scratch his pontoon. (Not even close, BTW)
We've stopped there overnight once or twice a year over the last five years or so. There have always been a number of derelict boats obviously abusing the 10-day rule. Some have been there for years. If I was a local I'd want them moved on too.
