On Tap was returning from the Hobart race being sailed single handed when it was smashed in a big blow off the southern NSW coast. EPIRB was deployed and 3 ships went to his aid. A line was thrown from one ship but fouled On Tap's prop. Steve was finally winched off buy helicopter. On Tap regularly sails at our club so it will be missed. I don't know much more at the moment, but at least the Steve is Ok.

Steve's origional plan after Hobart was to sail single handed down to Macquarie Island than round NZ before heading back to Brisbane . So I am not exactly sure where he was up to. I will probably hear more in the next couple of weeks as word gets round the club.

Motor running sounds weird.
If he lost steerage he should have had some sort of jury steering setup.
Will be interesting to hear what went wrong.

I believe he was rolled 360 and damaged sails. We will get the full story from the club sooner or later. I think he was using the motor to try and retrieve the line from the ship.

Does not sound pleasant.
Good thing he is safe.
Luckily he was on a strong old boat could have been a lot worse. They were doing well earlier in the race on handicap beating Azuro.
