I know I'm always banging on about eBay but if you ever wondered about the used yacht market values check this out!

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320963655417?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I can remember this boat for sale over 60 grand! Why bring in a boat from overseas?

Last week there was a fibreglass 505 on a galvanised trailer, broken axle that sold for just over $80 !!!!!!!!!!!

The second hand yacht market is totally knackered.

The current financial climate has to be the major factor but not the only one.

From what I am hearing around the traps, Bum's Bay is no longer an option in Queensland at least.

If your boat is not insured marinas will not allow it in as the marina's insurance company will void their insurance if uninsured vessels are tied up there.

So then if you opt for Bum's Bay you get about ten days before the water pigs tell you to move on.

With the cyclone that barrelled Port Hinchinbrook and the floods in Brisbane and Bundaberg, insurance premiums have rocketed north. It costs me $325 per year to insure my son's rowing scull for a mere $7,000.

There have been over 1000 lookers at my ad for the S&S 34 at $18,000 on Yacht Hub but only 4 phone calls. I will not give it away so I am building a cradle and having it put in my back yard.

That Dunc 35 looks like a great deal. How low will it go?????????????

I suspect it might have a major defect not revealed in the ads. Has anybody asked the seller for a condition report?

Depend on what you want to buy...... not many trimarans for sale at a decent price! The one I was looking at in QLD is nice and well priced (depending on transport to WA cost) but not a good option for me as it is dismontable for transport but not foldable, I keep my TT720 on dry storage at my club with mast up . There is a few nice looking 1995 Corsairs 24 MK1 & 2 starting at US$ 24,000.00 (asking price) nothing like that here.... you would be looking at $5o k at least for similar! very tempting to shop abroad!

I'm fairly certain its the Duncanson that was for sale at Lakes Entrance in Victoria. Its been on eBay a couple of times and I rang the owner more than two years ago when it was offered for about 45 thousand. He stated what he had done to the vessel and he certainly had spent plenty! He reckoned he was going to take it up to Sydney if it did not sell because they are worth more there! I think its in Queensland now where dreams go to die.
I still think its a lovely boat.

You are not making sense here Felix. You said your boss would not look too kindly on your taking 5-6 weeks off to sail your yacht from Qld to WA.

Would he look more kindly on your taking 5-6 MONTHS of to sail your yacht from the U.S. to east coast Aus then 5-6 weeks to WA?????????????

Further, add $10-20k to the price of the U.S. bought yacht to get it here (food, crew, repairs, piracy graft and corruption of various port officials while in transit) and then factor in lost work time (say $20,000).

Also add 10% GST based on the valuation of the yacht in the Australian market to import it, the outrageous fees the AQUIS will charge you and the fine you will cop if you do not arrive on schedule.

That cheap boat in the states ain't so cheap no more.

Then you are talking about how you store your TT 720 at the yacht club, mast up and I assume pontoons out. Is there some reason why you could not do that with the slightly bigger tri from Airlie Beach??

I think you are just trying to work up some semi-legitimate excuse to get away from the missus for 6 months and play up big time.[}:)][}:)][}:)]

Was talking with a guy from Townsville yesterday who told me this boat has sold. He said the deck was a bit rotten with dangers of falling through and the the interior had been gutted.

So it was probably only worth $20,000 after all.
