A friend of mine has asked weather a EPIRB can be transferred from one boat to another or is it a matter of leaving the EPIRB and just changing owners names? It was a interesting question!

Either way you must notify the change to AMSA.
If you leave the EPIRB on the boat when sold, deregister it so it won't show your details if subsequently activated. The new owner can register it in their name only after you notify AMSA of disposal.
If you keep it, change the details to reflect new boat.
