Id slowly sail up the east coast and find a more appropriate temperature . I just went through my last winter .
Next weekend Vic has two days of no rain and it happens to be a weekend its the second time since Easter. Maybe I might get my non skid deck painted .
last time I painted above the water line

Southace, get yourself an electric throw blanket. You plug 'em in to an inverter
and just drape 'em over yourself. Adjustable heat setting and use less than a hundred
watts flat out. I have one and mid heat setting is enough for me, and because they're
right next to your skin there's no excess heat to lose.

18 degrees is warm! You want to go to somewhere like Helsinki Finland where the yachties get excited about the harbour ice melting so they can start sailing!

any area where the temp goes below 10 degrees Celsius should be a no go zone.
between 10 and 20 degrees is a cold zone and should only be visited to appreciate the warmer weather.
between 20 and 30 degrees is the perfect climate.
above 30 to 35 degrees is getting a little too warm.
above 35 and it's just too damned hot.

this is my take on the weather.

They are the best thing since sliced Bread Brian there not large and they don't make any bigger but if you sitting on a settee or a bunk they will keep you warm with out over heating you .
When I went to Tassy year back I bought a feather down sleeping bag fit for the south pole . I had to get out of it around 2 am in the morning to cool off with lots of leaches sliding over the top of my tent .
Did it on a trail bike $25 a week for food , petrol and looking at some stunning scenery.rode so many Dozer tracks back then theywould go for miles through the bush
If you get a chance check out Mole Creek there is a beautiful gorge there. Might be touristy now wasn't back then.

Still on the topic of Aces freezing Queensland, Hayden, I loved Mole Creek. Everyblooywhere in Tassie is just a whole other world (especially the Queenstown pub ??!! strewth!).
I took a canadian canoe up Lake St Clair from the south...in winter.
Can't wait to get back there, where the little Tassie Devils wail like banshees.
Anyone ever seen a banshee? So ugly, but Drop Bears...oh Jaysus. Saw a man once head half ripped off by a Drop Bear. Tourist of course, Ain't it interesting how they only attack tourists. Biggest Drop Bear I EVER saw was in Mary Cairncross Park in Queensland. It was winter...snow everywhere.
Dead set!

Gosh, thanks for warning us about the Drop Bears. I was born in Africa, so I will make sure to look up when I go in the bush. Wonder if the Drop Bear is related to the African Tokoloshe?

Don't think so Yara. Drop Bears are a close relatives of the Dingbat.

Don't worry Yara, there appear to have been NO recorded cases of ( you know, don't want to say their name again) attacks on foreign tourists who had been in the country for over 90 days.
But, the (............) is not related to the much feared Dingbat. A Dingbat looks like a cross between a platypus and a unicorn.
Whereas a ( ..............) is more like a koala but much taller, similar in appearance but with huge canine teeth similar to those of gorilla.
And I'm not talking about this further.
