I have purchased the g2 Vision upgrade refered to as the premium version and key to exceptional navigation.

The version I have is August 2015 so I doubt doing the 1 only free upgrade atm would not be necessary.

The featurers state high resolution satellite imagery, marine services, coastal roads etc so I expected somthing like Google earth equivalent - sadly not for me.

Anyone else use this system? If how is it for you?

I also bought the 75dv from Bundy and did a trial fit with it.
So far happy with the unit and the transducer seems to work on all functions with in-hull method.
I will be contacting Garmin this week for advice.I

It will be a while till I fit my unit up as I have a lot of interior painting, a bit of carpentry and a lot of rewiring to do first.

I think pretty much all of the electronic charting brands have holes, gaps and errors in them.

Been a bit wet down your way I see.

Only those that use vector charts. For safety you need a back up system using raster or paper charts.

Yes you are right however I don't think raster charts can really be classified as "electronic" charts.

Apart from the price, the main reason I bought the Garmin is that it is a dedicated unit and is not touch screen. Eventually I will have a laptop on board for entertainment but will probably get Quick Charts to go on it and a puck GPS. Talk about redundancy. I will most likely end up with half a dozen GPS receivers on board.

I will always have paper charts aboard though they may not be updated. For my most used area of operations I will have them laminated matte on the working side.

The point I was trying to make is that raster charts are photographed paper charts in a file format that allows indexing to the Nav program being used and therefore as near as possible to being as accurate as using paper charts.
