Just so I have a vague idea, does anyone know roughly what a new sunstrip for a furling jib should cost.

We have a 28' yacht with a 10m mast and fractional rig so rough costs for any small yacht would be interesting.

As ever, thank you for any info.

Cheers

I had mine restitched (I realise that is not what you are asking though) and it cost $220 from memory.
18m mast fully rigged.

Much the same as nowandzen, restitch bit less $ bit smaller sail. One of the characters in my mooring area painted a uv strip on with whiite acrylic, can't imagine it would be much good, I've been gone awhile I'll check it when I get back

Yes, I read somewhere about using paint. I wonder if it works?

A quick way to bugger a good sail if it doesn't work. If the leech rubs on anything eg. The side stays and mast when tacking , I can not imagine it lasting to long. Especially the leech which needs the sun protection.

If you're looking at new sunbrella and having it glued and stitched on for a smooth attachment it'll be more like $400-$450.

Sunbrella might be a bit heavy and bulky for your 28 footer. I have a Dacron UV strip which furls up nicely. The UV stabilized sun strips wont last as long as Sunbrella, maybe 5 years or so.

I paid $400 for my 33ft boat's.
One of the reasons to keep local lofts. Try sending it to china for this. ??

Good point Ramona - thanks (although the better half fancies the sunbrella look!)

Cheers twodogs - you are right. I'm sticking local for sail work. There was a mistake on our last job and the local loft sorted it straight away so very happy - not so easy if you've got to send it back overseas.

My Dacron UV sunstrip is white. Can't see it unless you look for it.

Galatea in the first link is an Australian sailmaker and recommends Tenora thread. This is very expensive and will outlast your sail.
Polyester will last as long as most sails and certainly as long as the the UV strip is expected to last.

On my 28 footer I had my headsail changed from hanks to bolt rope, a UV strip and a small repair $600 by North Sails.

Cheers Sam.

Jib rowed ashore to bob fussell's in Lake Macquarie and repair underway. Thanks for all the advice. Now forced to chill out on the lake for a few days!

Big thumbs up for Bob Fussells. New strip in smart blue sunbrella. Really well executed job, delivered ahead of time, below estimate and to a wharf where we could pick it up.

The bee's knees on Lake Macquarie.

Cheers
