Hi all
Had a call from the mooring contractor this afternoon saying they are going to service my mooring in the mooring and asked if i wanted to be on board to watch
I have had it for around 4 years but i have never seen it out of the water yet so i am interested to see what i have on the bottom

Hi all
To anyone living in southern Tassie who has a mooring that needs servicing i can recommend Southern Mooring Services on 0439826170
They are a husband and wife team Russell and Lynn) with Russell doing a great job of cleaning and checking the gear as it comes up and Lynn handling the boat working the winch and finally lifting the mooring block (in my case a train wheel) on to their boat so it was checked from top to bottom
I was watching from my my boat which was rafted up beside theirs and they took a couple of hours to do mine and Lynn put the kettle on and we had a Milo and some fruit cake (said it was part of the service) while Russell was replacing a couple of suspect shackles and a stainless swivel that had been fitted at some time in the past
He also redid the eye splice in the bottom end of the rope riser to put a couple of more tucks in the splice
Cant fault their work and a lovely couple to deal with
I also had the surveyor on board for a couple of hours today doing the on water part of the survey for the new insurance company and i am slipping it on Friday for a clean and anti foul in preparation for the opening race of the season in a couple of weeks time and he will complete the survey then
Also found a bit of a repair was needed on the spinnaker so oi dropped that around to the local sail maker,so for the opening race she should be a quick as she is ever going to go
Spent all day mucking about on the boat but all went well so i am a happy boy

Really the cost of new shackles and swivels is minor when the whole apparatus is hauled out of the water. Your contractors certainly have a decent attitude and deserve your recommendations and there would be plenty of people on the mainland looking for similar people. In my local area especially.
