G'Day Don,
I'm presently at 1140m altitude in the mountains behind Mossman, waiting for the council to fix the road so I can get out (over 3700mm of rain since mid December).
My hope is to not spend next wet season on the mountain. I'd rather be sailing somewhere

Depends on a few things. Like how old you are and are you prepared to travel. What sort of budget too. Do you intend to sail or just cruise? If you buy that Carter 37 I could stop obsessing about it!
There are some tremendously good yachts for sale at sometimes ridiculous prices. This one appeals to me in this price range.

There are a lot of choices in your price range and required sailing performance. 30 to 35 foot seems to be the sweet spot for solo sailing and keeping the costs to a reasonable level. Not necessarily, there are many cyclon safe marinas.
You can alway duck in for a few days take shelter.
Yeppoon expirienced Marcia, cat.5 , who did not remove awnings
lost it, otherwise no damage. Gladstone, Yeppoon, Mackay, Townsville
Port Doglas, would be a few more, are rated safe.

Yep bit of a bugger the old tropical cyclone. We had one in November a couple a few years ago and one in May this year. One year I would like to be north, above the cyclone belt but have to do a bit more research yet
