I inherited a Hartley Golden 11.6m Ferro cruiser several years ago.
Its been moored up in Hervey bay for several years now and it is now in need of repair and maintenance.

unfortunately I am located in South Australia which makes it quite costly just to get to the boat.

I want to keep the boat for sentimental reasons and eventually learn to sail it.

I'm looking for someone that can help me get the boat back in shape, by coordinating/acting as an agent for me in Hervey bay for the repairs maintenance and cleaning required to get it seaworthy again. All going well once it is all fixed up I would be happy to let it be sailed by those that help me. My long term goal will be to move it down to South Australia (once I have learned to sail it)

I'm looking for any advice/interest.

I keep my Ross at hervey bay and it is a mess after 12 months. How long since you saw the yacht? I may know someone, I will pass on the message. Good luck

Its been a couple of years this time.
I intend to go up and clean it up and organise the deck to be fixed, ideally would meet up then.

Thx.

Hi,
I live in Hervey Bay and have 2 vessels on hard stand which I race every second weekend. I have close links wth the Hervey Bay Boat Club and spend quite a bit of time on the marina doing Boat and Jet Ski Licensing. I may be interested if you let me know what is involved.
Cheers T

Thanks. I am waiting on some quotes from Streamline Catamarans on what needs to be done. When I have an idea on what I'm in for Ill repost. Though, maybe you might know what i might pay for hardstand storage of the boat.

G'day Mirdad.
All we can say is....BE VERY WARY!!!!
We have spent a lot of time and money "fixing" our boat in HB.
Most of it was wasted by shonky tradesmen and overpriced labour.
It appears to be a "haven" for these people.
Avoid any labour from the slipway.
Get several quotes and DO NOT PAY up front.
I advise looking toward Maryborough or better still....Bundaberg.
We hope this helps in some small way mate.

I have to agree with that re Maryborough and Bundaberg. I have a 34 ft yacht in storage at Maryborough Slipway & Sandblasting that costs me $50/week.

Working on the boat and living in the yard is $80/week without restrictions on who you hire to do trade work.

Bundaberg Port Marina is very controlled and quite expensive.

Burnett Heads Marina is great but in a state of decline as it will be soon closed down mainly due to pressure and influence from Bundaberg Port Marina. I doubt it will last the next 12 months. You could punt a haul out and a three month refit but I would not gamble anything more than that.

Bundaberg Slipways in the town reach of the Burnett River is very professionally run with great service. Boat storage will cost around $70/week but working on a boat will cost $200/week as they do not want you hanging around for too long.

They also own one of the slipways at Tin Can Bay but it has no yard.

Tin Can Bay is a place worth considering. Some people with big motor boats in Sydney have them taken to Tin Can annually because it is a lot more economical having their work done there than Sydney.

Up and down the coast of Queensland the marinas are full and there are more boats around than there are people to take them sailing. Also there are very few moorings as we only have rivers.

We don't got no Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour or Pittwater.

It is more economical and safer to have my boat in hard stand than in the water. No registration or insurance needed. Don't get to sail it like that but I have other things going on.

Thank you all for your feedback. Its REALLY appreciated.

I have engaged Streamline Catamarans in HB to get the deck fixed. from there I will look at how i might get it up to Bundy.

Long term i need to get it back down to Adelaide when its sailable.

:D
