Hi all
I am Hoping for some people to give me their opinion on my motor. At the moment we have a auxiliary suck on the back of our 25 foot Roberts, the motor is great works fine it is still brand new, but I just don't like having it hung of the back it looks ugly is it if difficult to use, eg putting in in gear and starting etc. I also just don't like the the look,
Can people out there give me some ideas, or maybe what people have done,
Thanks

Depending on what motor you have there are kits available to alter the angle of the starter pull. On my old quarter tonner I had a 8hp outboard on a fixed bracket on the stern [padlocked in place]. the gear lever had an extension so that I could reach easily from the cockpit so that picking up moorings etc was easier. I just drilled a hole in the top of the gear lever and used a length of fishing rod to operate the gear. I never turned the motor itself just steered with the yacht tiller.

Benny, I have the same issues on my Top Hat. It's ugly, but functional. I have a gear stick made out of PVC pipe, and I can reach the throttle over the transom.
I have investigated some automation, in hydraulic lift and remote throttle and gear, but it's a bit pricey for a little more convenience.
Check the websites of your motor's brand and see what they have, you can also get a charging circuit and electric start.

Benny I went from normal tiller throttle control to an outboard with forward controls
.Not by choice as the old outboard was stolen, but in reality it was the best thing. Coming into a pier having to fumble with the tiller throttle, whilst often looking backwards or at least down, was a pain.
If you are happy with the outboard you have, I'd look to see how much a forward control kit is. You Can also pick up the morse cables and aftermarket versions through whitworths etc. Not hard to fit. go for it.
