Boat rego must be linked to mooring

We have a couple of moorings in Tassie (one at Port Huon where the boat is normally kept and a second at Eggs and Bacon Bay where we sometimes go to) that are pre the change in 2014 and to sell them it is simply a matter of finding someone who want to buy one, filling out the transfer section on the back of the mooring rego paper and then they take the form to MAST to have it changed over to their name and their boat details

Pre 2014 Moorings are approved at a length and if you want to put a longer boat on a mooring than what it is approved for you need to contact MAST and they will look at what is around it and make a decision on whether a longer boat can go on it

In my dealings with MAST they are very helpful and approachable and are a easy to deal with

No sure how the post 2014 Moorings work but i thought that you owned the gear and MAST owned the spot

The best thing to do is give them a call and discuss what you want to do and see what they say

I think you will find that most of the moorings in the best spots are pre 2014 so it should be a fairly simple process to buy one and be assured that you can keep that spot in the future and sell it if needed

The cost of having a mooring is the rego cost of around $80 per year and the cost to have it serviced at least every 2 years that is normally around $400 plus what ever needs to be replaced when the mooring is lifted and inspected

Be careful who you get to service your mooring as some of the mooring contractors are not approved by MAST and this can cause some drama's if the mooring is in the incorrect position

I use Southern Mooring Services 0457811070 to service my moorings , they are a husband and wife team who do a great job, are a pleasure to deal with and are approved by MAST

A few months ago MAST sent a survey out about moorings so things may be different in the future so i would give them a call

This always REALLY annoys me. I asked MAST why they are approved and others not? Is there a training course? A set of standards or guidelines they complete there work to? Does MAST inspect their work every year? Nope!!

When it comes down to it (and this came straight from MAST), anyone can service a mooring as long as you keep invoices and take pictures and use the right gear.
