Hi all

Went out to the boat yesterday afternoon to do a couple of jobs, looked at the current reading on the log and compared it to the reading when we bought her and found that in the last 30 months we have done 442 nm

Not using the boat a lot but work a 9 day fortnight, crew on another boat on most Saturdays for 6 months of the year in the racing season, don't sail on Sundays (go to church) and at Christmas and Easter when i get some time off from work we always seem to be going interstate to visit family so most of our sailing has been one day or the occasional overnight

Through racing i know lots of other people with boats who i could go for a sail with so is hard to justify having a boat but it is nice to have her sitting there available when ever i want to take her out for a sail

Any thoughts

Regards Don

I try to sail once a week all year round. I often spend time just using her as a floating shed too at other times.

I also try and sail my boat once a week. Usually mid-week as it just works better for me with school-age daughters.

Also get down there a few times a week to potter and work on her.

I try to sail in the championship series at my club, which means a race once a month. I also try and get out for a cruisy sail around the river once a month.

I have to drop my daughter at sail training every weekend, so I use that time to go and sit on the boat and scratch my head over the long list of jobs I've got to do.

The right amount of times to use your boat per year is N -1 (where N is the number that will drive your partner to divorce you) :-)

I am fortunate enough to have the boat on my jetty behind my house so there is not a day go by that I do not go down to the boat for some reason. My wife calls it my 'Man cave'. I try and race the boat at least once to twice a week or maybe three times like this week, plus the odd weekend away. I race in full cruising mode including dingy and motor so when weather is good we can just jump on the boat and go. I only looked at the log on the weekend and have sailed the boat just under 5000nm in 15 months.

I used to do 3-4 multi day trips up into Broken Bay or down to Sydney. In the last 3 years I have been to Lord Howe twice, had one 2 night stay onboard with the wife and maybe a dozen day sails.
Boats have to be used and I would hate for her to become a mooring minder. I keep up the maintenance but 9 times out of 10 I go up to her to work on her. I always, unless I have an engine etc maintenance issue preventing it, take her for an hour or so motor around Pittwater.
That is why MB is for sale.

I'm on-board at least once or twice a week if not more.

Done 2,775 nm in last 12 months.

Doing a refit at moment..new mainsail, engine control rebuild plus a few other things so have not done any sailing since return from up north.

Planning to do a short cruise in June.

I went through a time period of working too far away from RANi that I hardly saw her let alone saied her, but now thanfully that has changed and I work close enough to liveaboard. Looking forward to holidays and long service leave so I can go for a decent sail.

Were live aboards. Don't work and sail whenever we can which is mostly several times a week. At the moment were in north Queensland anxd will go down to the Whitsundays when the weather cools. We try and avoid marinas and prefer to anchor out although marinas have their uses from time to time. Were hoping to get down to NSW later in the year and head north again at the end of next summer.
We do this because we absolutely love it. It has it inconvienances but the personal rewards are priceless.

Try to do twice a week all year round (although it may drop to once per week for a couple of months in the winter). The beauty of singlehanding is that I don't need anyone to come with me. I can say to the wife "I'm bored" and the first thing she says is "go sailing". Often she says that even if I don't say anything first.

I live aboard and unshackle the chains of society once a week for a few days and nights. Even if I just steam around and anchor out front of town that peace is enough to make me happy. Unfortunately I have just been blown back from KAngaroo island due to stiff SE breeze on the nose. It's nice to be back in a sheltered bay and more than likely stay out of the marina for the next 5 days over Easter.

I try and day sail every 2-3 weeks and spend about 2 nights a year with my wife and child on the boat. Every week for a few hours it is a shed for working in or just sitting around and having a beer. Not enough but agree it is nice to have her there. Easter looks like beautiful sailing weather up here on Sunshine Coast.

Not often enough.

I am onboard at least once a week but it is using me to get itself up to scratch with seaworthiness rather than me using it for it's seaworthiness.

Current job is to get the chain plates off in pairs, check for corrosion and cracking, replace bolts and paint around them. There is progress.

For company I have my Sony AM/FM/SW transistor radio that I bought in Hong Kong in 1972 for $45 tuned in to ABC Classic FM which sounds beautiful.

Even though I am not sailing her, it is a lovely place to be.
