Has anyone attempted to insulate the inside of their yacht.
I pulled some mouldy carpet off the inside of the topsides when I first bought the boat and it has been bare fibreglass since.
Wondered whether the foil based reflective insulation would be any good or just a waste of time.
I am also considering insulating a van we are doing a campervan conversion on, but unsure what to use.

I really depends on what you want to insulate against....if the boat is used in tropical waters, insulation with block the cooling effect of the generally cooler water.
in colder waters.....the sea can be warmer than the air temp....so a plus point.
Insulation is best for when you want to artificially change the temp inside the boat by either heating or cooling.

We relined the engine box with the new foil based insulation. It made a small difference to temperature (there is a cutlery drawer above the engine box where it was noticable), but no difference to sound level.
Our hull had original 70's vinyl lining which we removed and replaced with hull lining from Whitworths. Looks good, but again don't think it made any difference to sound or temperature. But it does seem to have reduced the condensation levels in winter.

Insalating yacht a with marine carpet or front runner is a great insulater. A sharp pair of scissors/knife and a a hot melt glue gun to instal!
The previous owner on my new yacht put a blower from the engine room into the cockpit cant wait to test it out on my next passage in the cold....maybe I won't need slippers/uggboots on my next adventure!
