Hi all, I am just in the process of renewing my insurance policy with Club Marine. I am quite happy with them, but the cost is high and increasing substantially yearly. I heard about Youi, and obtained a quote - the person I was speaking to was
from an overseas country (not a great confidence builder) and also had no real knowledge of boating at all.
Has anyone out there had any experience with Youi, or does anyone know of someone who has made a claim and either had it processed satisfactorily or otherwise?

When I was living in oz i used youi. I had car claims that they processed quickly. Never had to claim on my boat.

The secret is to find someone who you can talk to and knows his job. I can have a look at my old emails for the guy who i always spoke with if you like ?

He was a kiwi i found some there o.s staff far smarter than locals

You should have asked to speak with his/her supervisor, that's what I usually do when I speak to someone who doesn't know what their doing, usually even if the supervisor isn't sure either, they at least know who to put you through to that does know.

Yes time on the phone with people who have no idea what a boat or swing mooring is then finally say sorry we can not insure a boat to that value 10 minutes later.
I have had excellent claims experience with Club Marine.

I changed from Club Marine to Youi this year just to share the love. I spoke to a chap called Richard Markwell [email protected] he is based in Brisbane and he was able to get a better price for me and could answer all my questions so I signed up for a year. I always read the policy and it varied little from Club Marine. With all insurance policies there is a 30 day cooling off period so there is plenty of time to change your mind.

Hi,

I've used youi for a few years now (since GIO decided to stop insuring my boat). I'm very happy with them.

The premium was much cheaper than anywhere else, but at the renewal they wanted to increase it significantly. A quick phone call to them and they left it at the original amount.

My boat is only 6m and only cost $1300, so I don't have a huge demand for insurance, which is why GIO and Club Marine weren't interested I guess. I was only interested in 3rd party insurance to make sure I'm covered if I crash in to someone else's expensive yacht. But, you can't get racing cover on a 3rd party policy, so I got comprehensive and set low values for hull ($2k), rig ($1k) and motor ($1k).

This backfired on me, because my rig got brought down when the wash from a passing stinkboat made my mast clash with the boat in the neighboring pen. It snapped my mast in two and the cost for full replacement came in at $9k!

I found a great rigger who was able to come up with a cheaper alternative, and leave some of the work to me. The cost came down to $2700 and Youi covered the claim for that amount - regardless of the specified amounts.

I guess impression is based on who you talking to.
I have YOUI for 3 years and huge claim after cyclone Marcia
was processed without glitches, except the workmanship is still not sorted.

Haven't had a claim through them, but found them really friendly to deal with, cheap, onshore & happy to own any problems they caused. The guy I spoke to initially definitely knew what a swing mooring was and why a monohull would be cheaper to insure than a multi. So there's certainly some knowledge knocking about. Not needing to get a survey was another huge plus for me.

I went through the same sort of process as Microbe - just got cheap third party cover for the first little while when I was getting the boat sorted. When the guy gave me the quote, I said something like "ok, sounds really good, I'll just have to check with the missus". The guy on the phone immediately said he'd grab his supervisor and see if he could get me a better deal (which wasn't actually what I was trying for). Came back a couple of minutes later with another $10 a month off the bill.

When it came time to up it to include the racing cover, they sent out the policy and while it was comprehensive, they didn't have the racing box ticked. Called them back, they apologised profusely, got me off the phone, and sent through a whole new policy (apparently, there was some issue with their systems not allowing them to modify properly)....at the same price that the third party was as an apology. Really impressive.

Very happy with YOUI... I was with Club Marine but they got too expensive and wouldn't insure on swing moorings. Haven't had to claim but good to see the positive write ups about claims.

I hope YOUI is as good as you all say, as I was on-line for a quote and one phonecall later I have a policy for a yacht I don't yet own!! Anyway the policy is ready to activate as soon as the purchase goes ahead. A special deciding factor was that YOUI did not require a survey; and in this particular case I am comfortable purchasing without a current survey. I hope they know what they are doing - fingers crossed - mainly needed public liability for the marina anyway. I hope I know what I am doing for that matter.

My boat is insured with youi, I decided to use them because they don't require an out of water report at all to get comprehensive insurance. Club marine wouldn't even look at my boat and the guy there put me on to youi.
