Almost all the boats on my watch list have recently been sold and some of these have been on the market for several years!

People are taking on total restoration projects and even those suspicious cedar strip composite cruiser/racers are moving.

Is this my imagination or is the market as flat as ever ?

The lovely 35 foot cedar strip composite yacht built by McConaghy in Tasmania is still for sale. I've been hoping some one would buy it and remove the temptation!

The cedar strip Cole 34 "Tactical Response" is still for sale too. A lot of boat for the money.

I have a Mustang 3200LE for sale. It has been on the market now for 18 months maybe closer to 2 years. Here is my experience.

People who were not particularly influenced by the economy (here in WA with the slow down of the mining) and were in the market for boats in the $150k plus range bought what they wanted. They generally did ok if they waited for a motivated seller. But in my observation, the sellers in that range did not move much because the market was still sort of there.

Sellers in the $50 - $150k range (me) are struggling to sell. The cashed up miners who might of been in that market have gotten a little nervous with the economy and they are eying off the larger trailer boats in the $30k - $50k range, giving the trailer boat market a little bit of movement.

( I am not a broker. This is just my opinion from trying to sell a 32 foot cabin cruiser )

Now, my cruiser originally went on the market for $89K. I was getting offers for around the $40k mark. Mostly from eastern state buyers looking to 'flip' boats. I knew that happened with houses, but not with boats. Go figure... Apparently they have doing ok with that technique.

The current price for my boat is $67K. Even at this price it sat with only maybe one or 2 viewings in 8 or nine months. But know it has apparently become one of two of the highest viewed boats on 2 different brokers books. The big difference is that the offers that are being put on it now tend to be from 'private' syndicates. People are getting a little smarter with their boating money.

I now also have an Oceanis 473 and the broker knows it. I suspect that he uses that to get a buyer to lowball any knew offers. Yes he is suppose to work for me, but he doest get a dime until a boat sells so it is still in his best interest to get something rather then nothing. I feel brokers are really struggling at the moment. I have my rock bottom price and it is almost there. I knocked back two offers just this weekend. I won't be giving it away.

So I think the market is starting to move. Still a little slow and It is just in a different direction to what we have seen five or so years ago.
There is a broker that frequents other areas of this forum (JB) who from time to time sticks his head in here. I am sure he will give his perspective the he sees this....

Yep me too! I would think cheap production boats build quality would be much more questionable. Custom built boats have far more attention to detail than the average production boat. I'm more than happy with mine.

Horses for courses. I am more than happy with my production tub. I wouldn't of bought it if I wasn't.

Im up at Rosslyn bay marina at the moment, the marina is over halve empty and there seems to be heaps of boats for sale, the mining downturn has definitely affected this place
