If you own 35 odd foot of cruising yacht that is not getting enough use.....

I am looking for owners who would like to share their yacht with me occasionally in return for shared running costs, ownership, crewing or just help with maintenance.

I am an experienced sailor, coxswain and former yacht owner who would like to expose my young family to the pleasures of coastal cruising, but I cant justify owning a yacht outright at the moment.

The ideal yacht would be a production yacht post 2000, 35-45 feet, with 2 or 3 cabins located in fremantle.

If you know anyone with a suitable boat but not enough time to enjoy it or wants help please get in touch!

Thanks, Ben

I cant help you but at least my comment will bring this thread back to the top!

I often wonder how often others use there boats, I'm out about 7 times a month, and frequently see the same boats not looking to have moved from one month to the next.

Hope you find a share, there must be one out there!

My boat gets used rarely. I am over day sailing so tend to use it for multi day voyages a few times a year.

I think this is the biggest problem with keelboat ownership. Modern life is so busy that unless you abandon your family and have an easy job, there is not much time to go sailing. So the boat sits on the mooring as a symbol of the dream. I think this is another reason why second-hand boats are hard to sell.

The advantage of the trailer sailer is that there is little deterioration if it sits ashore under cover. However, in my case at least, the work involved in going for a sail means that a solo day sail is impossible, and hence a week-end trip is necessary.

The winners are retired baby boomers with a paid-off empty nest. Unfortunately I am only one of those things.

The trailer sailers are all sitting in storage yards or yacht club enclosures with grass growing up through the trailers. Some make it to eBay or Gumtree or just quietly rot away in yards and farms.

If your a grey Nomad a trailer sail would be great to drag around Australia drop into any great sailing area and have some fun and then use it as a caravan till the next sailing spot

I've threatened my wife a few times with "Lets go over to Perth[or Nth Qld} and buy this trailer sailer. Sail it in all the usual spots and live aboard and sell it on when we get home". The trouble is with grey nomads of the female persuasion is climbing in and out of the boat on a trailer. We did the caravan thing awhile back and my wife assures me there is no way she could do the same with a trailer sailer. It's only for the very hardy old couples.

Mine does not get enough use by me, for sure.

Work at sea and at times the last thing i want to do is work on another boat ...... my youngest son uses it more than i do, but at least it is being used.

He uses it, I pay the bills
