Its not a problem I have experienced, but several previous posts have been about keeping birds off moored boats.

Came across the Bird Gard on the interweb, which scares birds away and can operate on a 12V power supply. The blurb claims it can scare off cormorants and gulls. Has anyone had experience using one of these on a boat?

I recently moved to bird city, which the locals know as Lake Macquarie.

I haven't yet needed to try BirdGard or any of the similar products. At the moment (crossing fingers), simple bird net over the boom is working for the seagulls. I don't have a windex, so the cockies find another mast to play on. For the cormorants sitting in the spreaders, I have put a couple of sail battens on a piece of string and raised on a halyard to just sit out and above the spreader and swings into the spreader space with the boat rocking or on the breeze. Seems to be working.

Some swinging CDs are improving my clean up by about 90% at present.

Here is one that has worked for me at least in the cockpit and under sail if left on the boom.

Buy a pack of pool chlorine tablets
Put a tablet on a small bucket or container with holes in the sides.
Hang under the boom.
Pack away in later sealed bucket when on the boat.
No guarantees but some birds don't like the smell it seems

You're onto something there, when we paint any major part of our boat, the birds won't touch it for a few weeks.
Dad experimented with vixen in a container that would let the smell out but not the water in.
Seemed to work for a while but they got used to it

Find a recently deceased seagull and hang it between the shrouds or similar.

Make your boat less bird friendly than the boats around you.
