Sad news. My long time mate, Kevin Fleming, designer and manufacturer of the Fleming Wind Vanes passed away this week.
I first met him at the Port Adelaide Sailing Club in the mid 60's ,when he was building his first yacht, a 28ft plywood Daydream design, after which he had a 34ft Randall extended Blythe Spirit design built in Port Adelaide, fitted it out himself, and sailed it to the Whitsundays.
Returned to Sydney and set up a marine business, making s\s marine stoves and refrigeration.
After designing and manufacturing his world renowned wind steering system, for which he received an Australian Design Award in 1982.
Later he sailed his biggest yacht, a Swanson 42 to the US, and set up his marine business in San Diego.
On returning to Australia Kevin retired in Port Lincoln.

There will be many of his steering systems standing proudly on the stern of yachts throughout the world, and his silent hand on the helm.

I have used a few Flemings and had the opportunity to talk with Kevin years ago. A top engineer and very friendly bloke when I spoke to him.

I've had two Flemings bought second hand and Kevin Fleming was still happy to help me with advice.
RIP. Condolences to the family
