Hi
I'm heading down for the Hobie 16 state championships that weekend and was wondering if you could give some info on what to expect. Wind, water conditions, distance we're racing from the beach, stuff like that.
Cheers

historically the wind is always terrible that weekend (i've been down there for many mudlark/JD/cherub march long weekends).
crappy seabreezes or dying easterlies.

Hi
Unfortunately the weather during the regatta long weekend is either very heavy or very light. As usual when there are visitors around the wether is normally "un-seasonal".
However saying that the usual conditions to expect are; light easterly’s in the morning (2-10 knots), then swinging to a sea breeze usually around 1.00 o'clock (now 2.00 O'clock due to daylight savings) the sea breeze is normally between 10-15 in the bay and 13-18 out side the bay.
From what I have heard I believe the hobies will be run out side the bay in a north easterly direction. This area is unprotected and will experience greater wind strengths and a larger swell. You will have to sail in a North Easterly direction for about 3 km to reach the race area. (This area should be unaffected by shipping movements)
We normally have around 70 boats attend, not including the 30?? I think I heard expected from the hobies. This is going to be a very big regatta with the JD’s, Javelins, and Hobie 16 states held at the same time.
Hope to see you there,
Leigh
P.S. a picture of Koombana Bay and the race area is in the picture area of this site.

Hi Leigh
Appreciate your feedback and the effort you put in outlining the course. There should be close to 25 Hobie 16's from Nedlands alone then there's the regional clubs that will come down. There should be at least 30 boats.
I'm going to put this link on the Hobie site for the guys to have a look at. Any chance of letting us know where we'll be putting out boats so we can sort ourselves out Friday and Saturday??
Going to a busy weekend!!

Hi
Where you put your boats is up to you; however I would recommend putting them in front of the club on the beach, or in front of the junior boat shed on the left of the yacht club. All the skiffs like to rig on the grass next to the club and this area becomes very crowded. I would recommend getting there early because there is limited space available.
Hahaha don’t worry bomber the bar is well equipped and very cold!!
Pac; the gates to the yacht club should be open so you can put your boat in the yacht club car park and I guess you could probably sleep there to, other wise there is a car park just out side the gates to the club. I’m guessing your coming from Perth. Continue on the same road you got on to at Mandurah and keep going until you have bypassed Australind go straight ahead when you reach a set of lights. You will then reach a very big round about. If you go left you will head down to Busselton, straight will take you in to the centre of Bunbury, what you want to do is turn right. Follow this road for 3 km and turn right then left and the yacht club is straight in front of you. (A picture and directions are in the photo section of this website)
