hi

i have a Furlex 100s furler, it's only 2 years old.

We finished sailing on the weekend and I furled the jib right in. Then I noticed the line had pulled right out of the Furler. Never having worked on one of these I checked the manual, from the diagram it looks like the line has pulled free from the Locking Screw seen on diagram below. Does anyone know if I could fix this easily enough or would a rigger need to pull the whole thing apart ?
Thinking about it, I had a rigger reduce the amount of line some months back as it was getting jammed. I think he may have shortened it too much so that when I have almost fully furled the sail, there tension being placed on the locking screw which just could'nt hold it ??

Dont know the particular furler, but in general principle, a locking device at the end is not supposed to take the tension. You need at least one turn around the drum, and preferably more, to provide the friction needed to cope with tension. This principle applies to lots of similar devices, winches, guitar tuners, etc.

Looks pretty straight forward, how hard is it to remove the line guide?
I would give the rope 1 wrap clockwise around the lower bearing before sticking the tail into the oval hole and tightening it.

I had one of these on my last boat - very easy to take the cover/line guide off & re-install the rope with the locking screw. Just check you have a couple of turns around the drum when furled right in.
