Hey team. It's been a while since I posted... bit of a change to work has kept me off line a lot!
Have been living on board for the last 6 months and have been adapting well and the kids have been also... always taking some time to play hide and seek around the boat or the marina.

Any way, my relocation to Lonny went well back in Aug with a good window. The PO, his mate and myself had a good run up the coast over 4 days with a lot of lessons learnt on my behalf. I cant say anything other than great things about the PO and how he's helped me out.

We motored most of the way with a bit of night sailing and got a few runs up with the sails out, he even taught me how to pole out the jib once through Banks straight. My confidence in just 1 trip was boosted greatly.

I've been impressed with Mojombo. She's pretty liveable. the Deiso heater was a must through the tail of winter and didn't use too much power/fuel. All the systems are working. Batteries are about 5 Yo... 4x T105. I got a 500ah charger and was using that for a while on "power supply' mode - especially when the heater was on but without the heater, I've been rolling mainly on solar with last Q using $9 in power only.

I have taken her on only one decent trip... decent meaning up the river with Dad and the kids heading out to Dark Hollow and Spring bay (isn't that busy ATM!). I had to jury rig the old mans fish finder to a lump of 3x1 off the Airies as my Depth sounder has shat its self... Autohelm i50. She died the day I pulled into Seaport and has been showing 0.0 ever since... ill post separately on that in a sec.

The marina is ok... I have switched berths a few times for different reasons - ease of access and accumulation of silt mainly as she is a bit cramped and the silt is working her way back into the port after last years floods. Hope it gets a bit of a flush out this year again. Moving her once - not at slack high I was catapulted into an exposed steel beam on the other side of the marina which took a line of gel coat off of which I have repaired and undercoat primed so far.

I haven't taken her out much as I am worried murphy will raise his head as the timing belt on the Prima hasn't been done in possibly 5 years. Have organised to do that in the coming month.

In the next couple of days I will be doing my RYA shore based exam after completing that over the last year. What an awesome intro to Skipper theory!...

All up life on my Centurion is good.

The marina is value for money, the power wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be.
The facilities are good. A bit of preplanning for number 2s as its a short walk to the laundry/shower/toilets. They are always clean.
$4 each for a load of washing, the drier or a hot shower. Mojombo has a decent water heater and shower though and I only have to turn on the water heater for a couple of hours every 2 days for a hot shower. Tide is a biatch other than at slack water and its quite deceptive how much it cuts through the marina at right angles to any ingress egress once off the finger.
The pubs/cafes are not the social mecca I thought they'd be and noise isn't an issue. No yahoos on Friday to bother me yet.
There's about 5 live boards. Every one is congenial so far.
There's plans for some works associated with the silo developments across the river and a walkway over planned which will have some impact on the space around the boats. Watch this space.

I think the worst thing about Lonny is the tide and distance to the sea. Leave at High tide, return at high tide for me unless I want to stay overnight at the visitors berth or use a bit more fuel getting out.

Tamar Marine has some moorings over near Kings bridge. A couple of yachts shifted over there for NYE and Australia day to watch the fireworks. I'm not too sure about the details surrounding their use. I note on the AIS they have been used recently also.

I love the closeness to the city and it only takes 5-10 minutes to drive to work...

Oh... parking...there is no free parking for marina tenants. this is the worst part. It costs $180 a year to park at the Bowls club but even the you have to move the veh on play days... that got me a parking ticket over at Bunning's after a night shift once and I've been trapped in when forgetting to move it before a pennants day also...

Being a live aboard here is simple and things are good so far...

Moorings are actually all TYC or MAST, Tamar Marine only has the one under the bridge.

Spoke to JMC guys about parking a while back but I think the marina is a bit of a white elephant for them and I believe for sale, they don't seem to care too much.

You get a parking ticket in The Bunnings Car Park? See heaps of people park there all day and walk into town for work. The vacant land at the western end of Bunnings might be an option?

You finding your topsides getting filthy? I found being in a western facing berth there was alot of foam build up between the hull and pontoons, nothing on an eastern facing berth.

JMC I think may have a set and forget mentality in the most part mate. There's not much for them to do there... I know the guys that have worked there haven't had it as a full time job. Mind you I think there are a few things they could do to improve the place. its deff not a mecca of sailing!
Re the carpark... I thought the same. Scumbags!!!
