Hi there

My boyfriend and I have been sailing for about a year now and we were looking for some other sailing mates to go on day trips with. No one in our friendship circle sails. We'd like to have some friends around us on day trips so we can build our confidence in case we get stuck, plus it's always nice sharing our hobbies with other like minded people.

A bit about us - we are both in our 20s, I'm a professional and my partner is a uni student. We sail a 14' Caper Cat and we are keen to explore Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

If you are keen for a day trip sometime soon (weekends are best as we both work full time) get in touch and we can try and line something up.

Cheers, Steph

Sorry Steph, I'm in Sydney. Good luck.

Have you tried the local yacht clubs? Yes, you might have to crew in some races with overly-competitive male egos but chances are you'll make some connections.

Steph, I know how you feel. Most of our friends are land lubbers too. Otherwise most people think that racing is the only type of sailing you can do with other boats. But it can be a lot of fun social cruising. We are members of the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club so we go on occasional social cruises with them. Unfortunately it is mostly power boats, which is fine from a social point of view but destinations and weather conditions don't always suit sailors. My wife and I are in our late 40s and we have a 36 ft yacht. We sail on Moreton bay at every possible opportunity with the occasional trip up or down the coast. Been sailing on the bay for about 7 years now so we know it quite well. The only thing is that we tend to go out for overnight trips or longer - we are off for about 10 days over Christmas - your boat is faster but probably limited to day trips. Still, it could be fun to meet up at Peel Island or The Sand Hills or somewhere.

Hi Steph

Agree with Tim's comments. We are on Sunshine Coast. We would be happy to have a day trip around Mudjimba or just in Mooloolaba Bay with you. Also have a mate who has just got a 18 ft trailer sailor and is keen to do the same type of thing. Our boat is slower than yours too but that doesn't matter. It is fun being out there with others.

That sounds great. We would be keen to head to the Sunny Coast too, it doesn't really matter as long as we have at least one other boat out with us. I have some time off over Christmas/New Year period so we could tee something up for then. Let me know your thoughts, otherwise we could try for January 2015 (can't believe we are nearly there!).

Tim

Thank you for your response. I'd love to learn from your experience in the bay. Yes, very keen to try a day trip to Peel Island or the Sand Hills in the new year once you've returned from your long trip. I'll get in touch again in January to see how you and your wife a placed.

Thank you and all the best

Steph
