Does anyone on here have any advice about this problem. My unit, not so fondly named Beelzebub, appears to have finally kacked itself, won't turn on.

It began by randomly turning itself off. When started up again the periods where it remained on became shorter and shorter until it reached the stage where sweat FA happens. I've checked the fuses etc and followed the advice on a couple of other forums which suggest powering up with both the zoom in and out buttons pressed in for thirty seconds to no avail.

To anyone considering buying one, don't.

I have one and it's never given me any trouble. I HAVE heard of people with similar problems and they are usually fixed with a software update.

If its about to be thrown out you could check inside it first, just in case its case has leaked and you've got condensation or salt residue inside. If it has I think the best chance would be to wash it in alcohol (metho not bourbon!) and blow dry it with a hair dryer.

If the case is impossible to open you could leave it in a warm place all day and see if that fixes it. ie. to dry out whats inside.

When various electronic parts fail they give the symptoms you mentioned so it may be dead, but worth a try.

Thanks Trek, I'll give it a go.

Bloody pissed off with it as I coughed up over a grand and then I forked out another +_ 200 for the Fiji maps. If I cannot repair it I'm stuck with the transponder which will doubtless not fit on any other brand.

Currently using my iPad but that has it's problems as the charging port is constantly playing up.

Ill have to have a big rethink about what to replace it with. I know bugger all about them but thinking that I'd be best off with an external arial hooked up to lap tops.

Any advice much appreciated!

Looks like a hardware problem Japie. I think your best to have a Lowrance expert look at it.
Often, a trivial hardware problem can cause a seemingly major problem such as inability to power up.
Get a quote for a diagnosis first though.
