Be it at a marina or on a mooring, living aboard seems to be less kosher as a means of housing one's self lately. If that is the way you want to live you just have to be very low profile and shift around a bit.
If one is serious about the sailing life style, he would be shifting around a bit anyway which means he would not spend too much time at any particular marina or mooring.
Those that just hang in the one spot for a long time and let it all hang out (washing, animals and pot plants on the marina) are just making it harder for everybody else.
Very true, it's the same with the idiots who go camping in national parks and leave their campsites looking like the local garbage dump.
The marina where I have my boat doesn't appear to have an issue with people living there. Some of these people have jobs and businesses. They just like this part of boating lifestyle. I like it too because they are all friendly and its good to catch up with them when I go down to work on my boat or head out for a sail.
Please don't say things that make out that all permanent live aboard people in marinas are the same as you have grumbled about. To me, they help make my overall boating experience better. I might even join the ranks one day.
(I wonder what your back yard looks like)
