Was just about to push the button on a 3 bedroom house in Callala Bay after swimming in the beautiful waters of Jervis Bay then I read tonight they are trying to develop a 200 birth marina complex at Callala Bay. I would image it would change the charm of the area greatly.
Does anyone know how far this project has gone.

It hasn't even begun to be started and at the rate of obfuscation and green and red tape that will need to be satisfied in triplicate it will probably never be started.
As you will be aware, JB is a marine national park and as such they are going to have to jump through so many hoops that I believe we will have the second coming of Christ before we see this marina.

Look up the history of the Shell Cove Marina near Wollongong and you will see that you will have nothing to worry about for many years to come.

I certainly hope it never happens. It will destroy a very pretty little bay. Instead of moorings with an annual cost of a few hundred dollars, there will be berths with an annual cost of $6000 or so. Some of the locals think their kids will get jobs out of it, but what sort? Scraping bottoms and pumping fuel, I suppose - experienced tradies will surely get the jobs over inexperienced locals. And if the thing is successful surely local houses prices will rise even higher, to the stage where even a yardhand will have no chance of getting one.

LooseChange that is a relief, I am certainly not keen to see such a monstrosity in such an unspoilt area.
Chris, you are right it will not be a silver bullet for employment in the area. I'd say such a facility would rely heavily on automation in any case. Plus, Nowra is just up the road, surely there are plenty of job opportunities up there.

Though Shell Cove Marina is now being built I can't ever see a marina at Jervis Bay built. A cheaper non marina option would be a breakwater built on Callala Reef to provide protection to the moored boats; can't see that occurring either.

Nowra (Shoalhaven) has the highest youth unemployment in Australia.

The marina at Terrara has been approved for well over two years and the funds are there I believe, still no action. This will have full slip facilities and hard standing. We have the closest slip to Jervis Bay, No slips in JB anymore because of the park. The chances of a marina anywhere in the national park are extremely unlikely.
