I found the manual and it states that the pressure lever is to be opened to fill the tank, do I need to to this every time the tank is empty? My last hot water service isotherm was exactly the same system but I did not need to fill the tank manually each time ? Scratching my head again!
Hi southace, if the HWS is similar to the one on my boat, it has two coils inside the tank. One is the heating coil using engine coolant, the other is used to heat the water that comes out the taps.
The pressure relief valve dumps water into the tank proper which is the storage medium for the heat.
So the engine heats the water in the tank via a coil, which stores the heat which in turn releases the heat to the water flowing through the other coil on demand.
This gives you much more hot water than if you used the water out of the tank, BUT you do have to regularly exercise the valve to ensure that the tank is full or the performance is greatly diminished.
If yours is like this they are great systems.
Cheers, Bob.
