I believe it is notice to remove it. I suppose they will either destroy it or sell depending on what the value is. I saw them going around putting them on all the boats that washed up on the shore with the recent storm.

Fines of 5 units PER DAY after a time of usually one week or less or removal.

I've had one of these for being on an abandon mooring!
We just went an anchored for 28 days before being chased again, luckily we sold the boat on the 28th Day!

I've seen them a couple of times on clearly abandoned boats. If you go up and look on them, they usually have the reason marked on there - generally that they're not in a seaworthy state, but also that they're on the wrong mooring if there's been a complaint from the owner.

Am absolutely all for it. Nothing annoys me more than seeing some absolute reef of a boat that's never being used taking up a mooring space that someone who actually wants to use a boat could take. The amount of work and chances the BSOs have to go through to get rid of them beggars belief.

So who pays the disposal fee? The tax payer or the owner if they can find them?

Local boating officer reckons they have a fund which covers all the costs. They try to find the owner [how hard can it be]. Wait out the time then lift the boats on to the hard. Wait 3 months for the owner to claim the boat. They never do, then the contractor strips and sells off all the good bits to his mates. So the taxpayer pays.

They should horsewhip him while they are at it.
