Unfortunately, I snapped my mast in two at the weekend. I need to get a couple of quotes.
Apart from Taskers in Fremantle, is there anyone else who fabricates masts in Perth?
Not after anything fancy as the boat is only a Red Witch and just need a basic standard aluminium mast.

Can you try one of the sailmakers such as Doyles to see who they recommend?

might want to contact the Sea Scouts if you don't mind a 2nd hand mast. They have 3-4 Red Witches sitting in their yard at the end of Cale St Como (other side of the freeway) that haven't moved in years. You might get a cheap mast.

Or you might get a whole boat fot the cost of a brand new mast. For the benefit of not having another project I would go for the brand new toobe. New fittings, rigging, elecs etc. It will give you confidence.

Taskers are good and know what they are doing plus might have a section in stock.
Boating Hardware great guys (I used to work there) and worth a shot.
Also Edgar Vitte if he's still around.

Freight will be your killer in Perth so finding something laying around will be a lot cheaper.
If you can, but the section only and change over all parts yourself. Tge section is the cheap part, labour is what sends the price up.

Dave T. I have a Red Witch and I have a second mast. It is in good condition but is in storage. I could get it this weekend. I will sell it for the right $ so would be happy to discuss.

Thanks Mark. That may be the way to go, as both Taskers and Boating Hardware are talking about not being able to get a new mast made until middle of January. I have PM'd you.

Very true, the quote I'm getting from Taskers would buy a whole Red Witch and change!

Hey Mate,

I snapped the same make mast a couple of years ago, I repaired it for less than $80 and its been brilliant.

Process was, cut out the 15cm above and below which shortened the mast by 30cm, this got rid of the jiggered edge and a nice line to weld, I then inserted a 2m long, 6mm aluminium tube inside the mast, widest tube that would fit inside and put in high tensile pot rivets to hold it in place, then had the mast professionally welded on the new join by bullet boats in Rockingham.

It came out stronger than I thought, if you want to come and have a look just send me a private DM.
